A typical habit tracker app costs about $30 a year in the US, or about $5 a month if you pay monthly: those are the median prices across the top 50 habit trackers in the App Store, and half of the apps with a yearly plan charge between $12 and $48. A few skip subscriptions: Streaks is a one-time $5.99, and Habitica is free with an optional subscription. Almost every app has a free version, but what it includes varies a lot.
We read every price below from the US App Store on October 20, 2026, from each app’s list of in-app purchases, and took the free-version details from each app’s own App Store description. One of the apps is ours, Habit Rewards. We’re not affiliated with any of the others. Prices change, so check the App Store before you buy.

A range like “$12.99–$29.99” means the App Store lists several prices for the same plan. The section after next explains why.
Across the top 50 habit tracker apps
To check whether these 16 are typical, we also read the in-app purchase lists of the top 50 results for “habit tracker” in the US App Store, the same day:
| Top 50 habit trackers | |
|---|---|
| Free to download | 49 (only Streaks charges up front) |
| Sell something in the app | 42; the other 7 sell nothing in the app, mostly new apps with few ratings |
| List a yearly plan | 27, median $29.99; half between $11.99 and $47.99 |
| List a monthly plan | 25, median $4.99; half between $4.39 and $6.99 |
| List a lifetime plan | 22, median $24.99; half between $19.99 and $49.99 |
| List more than one yearly price | 16 of the 27 |
The other 12 apps that sell something either don’t say how long their plan lasts (“Premium”, “Plus”) or sell extras such as ad removal or in-app currency. Medians are per app: for an app that lists several yearly prices we took the middle one. Habit Rewards’ $29.99 a year sits right at the median.
Why one app lists several prices
Most of these apps list more than one price for the same plan: HabitKit lists four yearly prices from $5.99 to $24.99, Grit three, Productive four. That’s normal. Developers test prices against each other, run discounts, and keep old prices for people who subscribed years ago, and Apple lists them all. Which one you’re offered can depend on when you install, which screen you’re on, and whether you’ve subscribed before.
Ours too: Habit Rewards lists yearly plans at $12.99, $29.99 and $44.99. Most new users today see $29.99 a year with a 7-day free trial; $12.99 is an older plan and an occasional discount.
Some apps don’t label their plans by length at all. Finch Plus lists prices from $5.99 to $69.99, and Fabulous Premium from $16.99 to $59.99 (plus a $49.99 annual subscription and a $39.99 quarterly plan). Strides Plus comes monthly, yearly or as a one-time lifetime purchase, with prices listed from $4.99 to $149.99. For these three, the paywall inside the app is the only place to see which price goes with which plan.
The same app costs different amounts in different countries
App Store prices are set per country, and many developers charge less where incomes are lower. Some examples from the same day, converted to US dollars at that day’s exchange rate (approximate):
| App and plan | US | UK | India |
|---|---|---|---|
| Habitify Pro, yearly | $49.99 | £39.99 (≈ $53) | ₹1,699 (≈ $18) |
| Atoms Pro, yearly | $39.99 | £39.99 (≈ $53) | ₹1,999 (≈ $21) |
| Atoms Pro, monthly | $4.99 | £4.99 (≈ $7) | ₹199 (≈ $2) |
| Habitica, 12 months | $47.99 | £45.99 (≈ $61) | ₹3,699 (≈ $39) |
| Habit Tracker (Inner Grow), yearly | $7.99 | £7.99 (≈ $11) | ₹799 (≈ $8) |
| Streaks, one-time | $5.99 | £5.99 (≈ $8) | ₹599 (≈ $6) |
UK prices include VAT, which is why they often land above the US price in dollars. US prices on the App Store don’t include sales tax.
Yearly, monthly or lifetime?
Monthly costs more over a year, often a lot more. Across the top 50, twelve months on the monthly plan cost a median of 1.7 times the yearly price. Habitify Pro is $8.99 a month, which is $107.88 a year, against $49.99 on the yearly plan. Me+ is $9.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Atoms is $4.99 a month ($59.88 a year) or $39.99 a year. Monthly only makes sense if you’re not sure you’ll still use the app in three months.
Lifetime usually costs one to three years of the yearly price (median across the top 50: 1.7 times the highest yearly price): Grit $44.99 against $29.99 a year, HabitKit $29.99 against up to $24.99, Habitify Pro $119.99 against $49.99, everyday $49.99–$99.99 against $29.99. It pays off if you keep using the app past that point. Plenty of people stop using a habit app within a few weeks, so a fair rule is to use the free version or the trial every day for a month first, then buy lifetime if it’s offered and you’re sure.
One-time apps like Streaks ($5.99) are the cheapest over the years, but you pay before you’ve tried them.
What the free versions include
- Habitica: the whole app is free. The subscription ($4.99 a month to $47.99 a year) is optional: in Habitica’s words, it’s there if you’d like to support them. Gems are also sold on their own, from $0.99.
- HabitKit: up to four habits, with streaks, statistics, notes and reminders. Pro adds unlimited habits, widgets, backups and more reminders per habit.
- Do Habits: up to three habits. More than three needs Premium.
- Habit Rewards (ours): three habits and three rewards, with coins, streaks, reminders and widgets. One-off tasks don’t count toward the three. Pro removes the limits.
- Strides and everyday: free forever, per their descriptions, with paid plans that add features.
- Way of Life: free with a limit on habits; Premium “simply unlocks unlimited habits”.
- Habitify, Grit, Atoms, Me+, Productive, Fabulous, Finch and Inner Grow’s Habit Tracker: free to download with a paid tier; how much the free version covers differs from app to app.
If three or four habits are enough for you, and for a lot of people starting out they are, several of these apps cost nothing.
On Android, Google Play doesn’t list each app’s plans and prices the way the App Store does, so the tables above stick to iPhone prices. Two Android-only trackers are worth knowing on price: Loop Habit Tracker is free and open source, with no ads and no in-app purchases, and HabitNow is free to download with in-app purchases. Habitica, Habitify, Fabulous, Finch and Habit Rewards are on both.
How to pay less
- Start with the free version. Three or four habits is a good start anyway.
- Use the free trial, and set a reminder. Many yearly plans start with a free trial (ours is 7 days). Set a reminder for the day before it ends, and cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions if you’re not using the app daily by then.
- Pay yearly, not monthly, once you know you’ll stay.
- Don’t rush the paywall. Some apps show a lower-priced offer later, for example when you close the paywall or come back after a few days.
- Check family plans if more than one person in your home wants the app: Habitify, for example, lists a yearly family plan at $89.99.
Which one is worth it?
The cheapest app is the one you’ll actually open every day. If you want a clean streak tracker and hate subscriptions, Streaks at $5.99 once is hard to beat. If a game keeps you going, Habitica is free. If you want a pet to care for, Finch.
And if what keeps you going is a treat at the end, that’s what Habit Rewards is for: every habit pays coins, and you spend them on rewards you set yourself, like a coffee out or a new book, each with a coin price. Free for three habits; Pro is $29.99 a year after a 7-day trial in the US.
