Fabulous describes itself well: it “started as a habit tracker, but it evolved into a self-improvement, coaching, and mental health platform.” You get guided journeys, a daily coaching series, a morning routine, journaling, short workouts, meditation and live challenges with other members. Coaching series by topic, unlimited habits, Premium Journeys and one-on-one coaching come with the paid upgrade.
That’s a lot of app, and it’s the reason people look for something else. Usually it’s one of four things: they want less coaching and more tracking, they want a routine that actually runs, they want something gentler, or they’ve noticed that motivation fades after the first few weeks. Here’s an app for each. One of them is ours, Habit Rewards; we’ve tried to describe the others fairly.
| If you’re leaving Fabulous because… | Try |
|---|---|
| You loved the morning routine, but it never ran on its own | Routinery |
| You need your whole day planned, not just habits | Structured |
| You want self-care that feels kind, not like a program | Finch |
| You want plain habit tracking with a reason to keep going | Habit Rewards |
1. Routinery: routines that run themselves
If Fabulous’s morning routine was what you liked, Routinery takes that idea further. You stack small habits into a routine, break it into steps of a minute or a few, and each step runs on its own timer while a voice tells you what comes next. Morning routines, wind-downs, study blocks and workouts all work the same way. It’s on iPhone and Android, rated 4.7 from more than 18,000 US App Store ratings.
Good for: people who know what they should do in the morning and stall on starting.
Less good if: your habits don’t happen in a fixed order at a fixed time.
2. Structured: the visual day planner
Structured lays your day out as a timeline, with tasks, events and routines in order, so you can see how it fits together. It has an inbox for quick ideas, subtasks, a Pomodoro focus timer and widgets, and syncs across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac; there’s an Android app too. Recurring tasks and routines, calendar connections and automatic replanning are in Structured Pro (monthly, yearly or lifetime). It’s rated 4.8 from more than 167,000 US ratings.
Good for: people who want one place for the whole day, especially with ADHD or a packed schedule.
Less good if: you only want to track a few habits: a planner is more than you need.
3. Finch: kinder self-care
Finch is a self-care app with a small bird you look after. Quick check-ins and goals give it energy and it goes off exploring, and there’s no punishment for missing a day. Like Fabulous, it mixes habits with mood check-ins, reflection and breathing exercises, but it feels like looking after a pet rather than following a program. Free to start, with an optional Finch Plus subscription, on iPhone and Android.
Good for: people who liked Fabulous’s mental-health side and found the program tone too much.
Less good if: you want to track specific habits in detail.
4. Habit Rewards: tracking with a payoff
This one’s ours. No coaching, journeys or lessons: you add your habits (daily, weekly or monthly, with a reminder each) and check them off. What keeps you going is the payoff. Every habit pays coins by how hard it is (1, 4, 8 or 16). You write your own list of rewards, like a coffee out, a new game or a lazy Sunday, each with a coin price, and claim one when your balance covers it. One-off to-dos go in as tasks and pay coins too, and on a bad day you can spend 10 coins on a Skip that keeps your streak alive.
It’s on iPhone and Android, free for three habits, with a Pro subscription for more.
Good for: people who already know which habits they want and need a reason to keep doing them after week three.
Less good if: you want guidance on what to change, or audio coaching: Fabulous is better at that.
How to pick
Ask what you’d keep from Fabulous if you could keep one thing. The morning routine: Routinery. The planning: Structured. The calm, the self-care: Finch. And if the answer is “honestly, just the checkmarks, but I need them to lead somewhere,” try pricing a few treats in coins: that’s what Habit Rewards is for.
Whichever you choose, start with three habits, not a whole new life. Need ideas? Here are 100 habit tracker ideas, each with a suggested coin value, and 70 ways to reward yourself. The whole field, grouped by what motivates you: the best habit tracker apps.
Habit Rewards is free on iPhone and Android. Fabulous is a product of its own developer; we’re not affiliated with it or with the other apps mentioned.
