Give each habit a coin value, tick it off when it's done, and spend what you've saved on rewards you price yourself. The tracker keeps your balance, what you earned this week and everything you've claimed. Free, no sign-up, saved in your browser. Print a one-page sheet if you'd rather use a pen.
Coins: easy 1, medium 4, hard 8, very hard 16. Tap a box to tick it; tap again to undo.
Your balance lives in this browser only. To keep it on your phone, with reminders and streaks, get Habit Rewards (free on iPhone and Android).
A habit tracker records what you did. A reward tracker adds the other half: what you get for it. Every habit is worth some points (we call them coins), the coins add up, and you trade them for rewards you chose in advance. It's the same idea as a sticker chart or a token board, made for adults: you set the prices, you decide when to spend, and nobody else hands out the treats.
The point is the gap between doing the habit and getting the reward. A balance that grows a little every day gives you something to see on the days the habit itself feels like it's going nowhere.
Price rewards in days of effort, not in money. Add up what a good day earns you (the four example habits above make 21 coins), then use that as the unit:
| Reward size | Cost | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Small treat | About one good day | Coffee out, an episode guilt-free, a long bath |
| Medium | About half a week | Movie night, a new book, takeout |
| Big | Two to four weeks | A concert ticket, new running shoes, a day trip |
| Goal reward | A month or more | The thing you'd buy anyway, now earned: a weekend away, a gadget |
If you're claiming something every day, the prices are too low. If you haven't claimed anything in two weeks, they're too high or the list is too long. Keep a mix: one or two small rewards you can reach this week, and one big one to save for. Stuck for ideas? There are 70 in ways to reward yourself, and the dopamine menu builder sorts them by size.
Tick a habit only when the whole thing is done. Spend coins only on rewards from your list, so the list is the deal you made with yourself. And don't take a reward you haven't paid for: the balance only works if it's the only way to get the treat. When you'd rather weight habits by difficulty and see a score instead of a balance, the discipline tracker does that; for one habit and a run of days, use the streak tracker.
This page is the web version of Habit Rewards, our reward tracker app for iPhone and Android. Habits pay coins by difficulty (1, 4, 8 or 16), on the days you pick or a number of times a week; you build a reward list with your own prices and claim rewards from your balance. It adds reminders, streaks and home-screen widgets, and it's free for up to 3 habits and 3 rewards. Prefer a spreadsheet? The habit tracker spreadsheet does coins and rewards in Excel or Google Sheets.
Rather track it on your phone? In Habit Rewards every check-off earns coins, and you spend them on rewards you set yourself. Free on iPhone and Android for up to 3 habits.
