Enter the day you quit drinking, smoking, vaping or anything else, and what it used to cost you. See how many days you've kept it up, the money you didn't spend, and the date of your next milestone. Nothing leaves your browser.
Your sobriety date (or quit date) is the first full day you didn't drink, smoke or use. This calculator counts the full days since then, so on your quit date itself it shows 0 and the next morning it shows 1. Some people and groups count the quit date as day 1; if that's you, add one. A slip resets the date for most people, but it doesn't erase what you learned in the days before it.
Money saved = how much you used per day × what each one cost × the days since your quit date. For smoking, enter cigarettes a day and the price of one cigarette (pack price ÷ 20). For vaping or anything else, enter how much you spent per day. It's an estimate: use your real habit, not your worst week.
| You quit | Per day | Saved in 30 days | Saved in a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 drinks at $7 | $28 | $840 | $10,220 |
| 15 cigarettes, $10 a pack | $7.50 | $225 | $2,738 |
| Vaping, $5 a day | $5 | $150 | $1,825 |
The money you didn't spend is the easiest reward there is: it's already yours. Pick a reward for each milestone in the table above and pay for it out of what you saved. Small ones early, when the days are hardest: a good meal at one week, a new book at 30 days, something you've wanted for a long time at 90 days or a year. More ideas in how to reward yourself for quitting.
Milestones are weeks apart. The hard part is the evening in between. A daily check-in gives each of those days a result you can see. In Habit Rewards, set up a "Quit a habit" habit: each day you stay on track pays coins, and you spend them on rewards you choose. If you slip, long-press the day to mark it, and it costs coins instead. It's free on iPhone and Android. For a first month off alcohol, the Dry January tracker prints a dated calendar.
