Streaks is one of the best-loved habit trackers on the iPhone: an Apple Design Award winner, rated 4.8 from more than 27,000 US App Store ratings, sold as a one-time $5.99 purchase. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Vision Pro. It doesn’t run on Android, and there’s no sign it will.

So if you’ve moved to an Android phone, or your partner has one and you want to track habits together, you need something else. Here are three habit trackers that cover what people like about Streaks: a short list of tasks, a streak for each, and a widget on the home screen. One of them is ours, Habit Rewards; we’ve tried to describe the others fairly.

What Streaks does, and what to look for

Streaks keeps you to at most 24 tasks, each shown as a big round button. You tap it when it’s done and the streak grows. Tasks can run on set days or a number of times a week, and with the iOS Health app it can tick off things like steps or a run by itself.

On Android you’ll want the same three things: a quick way to check things off, schedules that aren’t just “every day”, and a home-screen widget.

1. Loop Habit Tracker: free and open source

Loop has been around since 2016 and it’s the classic answer on Android. It’s completely free, with no ads and no in-app purchases, and it’s open source (GPLv3). Instead of only counting streaks, it gives each habit a “strength” score that grows with every check-in and dips when you miss, so one bad day doesn’t wipe out months. It handles schedules like “3 times a week”, has home-screen widgets, and exports to CSV. Your data stays on the phone.

Good for: people who want a no-nonsense tracker and like charts.

Less good if: you also use an iPhone or iPad: Loop is Android only.

2. HabitKit: the grid

HabitKit shows each habit as a year-long grid of tiles, filling in day by day, with today at the right edge. It supports goals like “3 times a week” or “20 times a month”, has widgets for the grids and streaks, and works offline with no account. It’s on Android and iPhone, free to download, with a one-time premium purchase.

Good for: people who want to see their progress at a glance and like a good-looking app.

Less good if: a full grid isn’t enough of a reason for you to keep going.

3. Habit Rewards: streaks that pay you

This one’s ours. It has what you’d expect from Streaks (streaks, daily, weekly or monthly habits, reminders and home-screen widgets) and adds a reward for keeping at it. Every habit pays coins by how hard it is (1, 4, 8 or 16). You write your own list of rewards, like a coffee out, a new game or a lazy Sunday, each with a coin price, and claim one when your balance covers it. One-off to-dos go in as tasks and pay coins too. And if you have to miss a day, you can spend coins on a Skip that keeps your streak alive.

It’s on Android and iPhone, free for three habits, with a Pro subscription for more.

Good for: people for whom the streak alone stopped being enough, and anyone who already treats themselves and would rather earn it.

Less good if: you want Apple Health to check off habits for you, or you’d rather pay once than subscribe.

Which one?

If you loved Streaks for being simple and paid-once, Loop is the closest in spirit, and it costs nothing. If what kept you going was seeing the chain, HabitKit’s grid is the nicest version of that. And if you’ve noticed that streaks keep you going for a few weeks and then stop mattering, try putting a reward at the end of them: that’s what Habit Rewards is for.

Whichever you choose, start with three habits, not twenty. Need ideas? Here are 100 habit tracker ideas, each with a suggested coin value. Looking for something more like a game? See apps like Habitica.

Habit Rewards is free on Android and iPhone. Streaks is a product of Crunchy Bagel; we’re not affiliated with it or with the other apps mentioned.
