(Not Boring) Habits, or !Habits, is one of the best-looking habit apps on the App Store: an Apple Design Award winner with a 4.8 rating from more than 6,000 US ratings. If you’re on an Android phone you won’t find it on Google Play: !Habits is iPhone and iPad only, and its developer, Not Boring Software, makes its apps for Apple devices.
What people love about !Habits is its attitude. There are no streaks and no guilt: each habit is a journey of 60 repetitions, and missing a day or two doesn’t reset anything. Add skins that change the whole look of the app, widgets and reminders, and it’s a habit tracker that feels like a toy rather than a chore. Habits Plus costs $14.99 a year on its own, or $49.99 a year with all of Not Boring’s apps.
So on Android the question is which part of that you want. Here are four apps. One of them is ours, Habit Rewards; we’ve tried to describe the others fairly.
| If what you love about !Habits is… | Try |
|---|---|
| Progress that doesn’t reset when you miss a day | Loop Habit Tracker |
| Counting toward a number, on a grid you can see filling in | HabitKit |
| Kindness: no guilt, ever | Finch |
| Making habits fun, with something to look forward to | Habit Rewards |
1. Loop Habit Tracker: the no-reset score, free
Loop has been the go-to free habit tracker on Android for years: 4.7 stars from more than 63,000 reviews and over 5 million downloads on Google Play. It has no ads and nothing to buy, and it’s open source. The part that suits a !Habits fan is the habit score: alongside your streak, Loop gives each habit a strength that grows with every repetition and dips a little when you miss, so one bad day doesn’t wipe out months of work. It has home-screen widgets and charts, and exports your data to a spreadsheet.
Good for: people who liked !Habits’ “every repetition counts” idea and want it free.
Less good if: you came for the fun. Loop is clean and practical, not playful, and it has no skins.
2. HabitKit: watch the count add up
HabitKit turns each habit into a year-long grid of tiles that fills in as you go. It handles goals like “3 times a week” or “20 times a month”, so you can set your own version of 60 repetitions and see how far you’ve come at a glance. It works offline without an account and runs on Android and iPhone. It’s free for four habits; Pro (widgets, unlimited habits) comes as a subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase.
Good for: people who liked seeing their repetitions add up toward a goal.
Less good if: you want widgets for free, or more than four habits without paying.
3. Finch: kindness first
Finch is a self-care app with a pet: you look after a small bird by looking after yourself, and it goes off exploring as you complete small goals and check-ins. With 4.9 stars from more than 630,000 reviews and over 10 million downloads on Google Play, it’s one of the most loved apps of its kind, mostly because a bad day is never held against you. It’s free to start, with an optional Finch Plus subscription.
Good for: people who mostly loved !Habits’ no-guilt tone.
Less good if: you want to track specific habits closely. Finch is about self-care and mood more than counting reps.
4. Habit Rewards: fun with a payoff
This one’s ours. !Habits makes habits fun with skins and a guide; we make them fun with a reward at the end. Every habit pays coins by how hard it is (1, 4, 8 or 16). You write your own list of rewards, like a coffee out, a movie night or a new game, each with a coin price, and claim one when your balance covers it.
It’s forgiving too. Forgot to log yesterday? Check it off from the calendar. Missed a day for a good reason? Spend 10 coins on a Skip that keeps your streak alive. There are home-screen widgets, reminders, and habits you want to quit as well as build. It’s on Android and iPhone, free for three habits and three rewards, with a Pro subscription for more.
Good for: people who want a reason to show up beyond the habit itself.
Less good if: you specifically liked having no streaks at all: Habit Rewards counts streaks, it just doesn’t punish you for a missed day.
Which one?
If you want !Habits’ no-reset idea for free, Loop is the closest match. If you liked counting toward a number, HabitKit’s grid makes that visible. If the kindness was the point, Finch is the gentlest app there is. And if you want building habits to feel like earning something, try putting a reward at the end of them: that’s what Habit Rewards is for.
Whichever you choose, start with one or two habits and give them a few weeks. Need ideas? Here are 100 habit tracker ideas, each with a suggested coin value. Habit Rewards is free on Android and iPhone. (Not Boring) Habits is a product of Not Boring Software; we’re not affiliated with it or with the other apps mentioned. Ratings and prices as listed on the US App Store and Google Play on October 25, 2026.
