A blank habit tracker asks a hard question: what goes on it? Below are 100 ideas, sorted by area. Don’t take all of them. Take three.

The number after each idea is a suggested value in coins, by effort: 1 easy, 4 medium, 8 hard, 16 very hard. If you pay yourself for habits and spend the points on rewards (a reward chart for adults works this way), it tells you what each one is worth. If you don’t, it’s still a good guide to which habits will take real effort.

How many habits should you track?

Start with three: one you already half-do, one you want, and one that’s easy. Three habits fit on one screen or one row of a page, and a week where you tick most boxes feels like a win. Add a fourth when the first three run on their own, usually after two to four weeks.

Not everything has to be daily. Laundry is twice a week, a long run is once. Put the habit on the days it’s actually due, so an empty box always means “still to do”.

Picking your first three

Look down the list and mark everything you’d like to be doing. Then pick:

  • One you already do sometimes. It gives you early ticks and a streak to protect.
  • One you really want. This is the reason you’re tracking at all.
  • One that’s easy. Making the bed or a glass of water. On a bad day it keeps the chain going.

Give the hard one the most coins. Then decide what the coins buy: a menu of rewards with a price each, from a coffee out at 15 to something bigger at a few hundred. If you need ideas, here are 70 ways to reward yourself.

Track it on paper or on your phone

On paper: our free printable habit tracker makes a monthly grid with a goal and a reward for each habit, and the 30-day challenge tracker is good for one habit at a time.

On your phone: Habit Rewards is a habit tracker built around these coin values. Each habit pays coins by difficulty (1, 4, 8 or 16), on the days you pick or a set number of times a week. You set your own rewards with a coin price and claim them once your balance covers it. It keeps your streaks and reminds you when a habit is due.
