Do It Now: RPG To Do List is one of the most installed gamified to-do apps on Android: more than a million downloads and a 4.1 rating from about 12,700 reviews on Google Play. Tasks raise your character’s skills and characteristics, earn experience and level you up, and pay gold that you spend on rewards you add yourself (“Watch a movie” for 100 gold, then actually go and watch it). It’s free with ads, with a paid upgrade.
On an iPhone, it’s a different story. Its developer, Taras Lozovyi, publishes it on Google Play only. You may find an App Store listing with the same name and description from a different developer name, last updated in October 2024 and rated 1.2 from 6 ratings. We couldn’t confirm it comes from the Android app’s developer, so check the developer name before you install it.
The part most people miss when they switch is the gold-for-rewards loop. These three iPhone apps keep it. One of them is ours, Habit Rewards; we’ve tried to describe the others fairly.
| If you liked Do It Now for… | Try | Price (US App Store) |
|---|---|---|
| The RPG: a character, XP and gold | Habitica | Free; optional subscription |
| Gold for rewards, without the game | Habit Rewards | Free for three habits; optional Pro |
| Skills and stats you design yourself | ulives | Free; Premium $9.99 |
All three are free to start, and prices and ratings are from the US App Store on 2026-10-20.
1. Habitica: the closest RPG
Habitica is the nearest thing to Do It Now’s game on an iPhone. Habits, dailies and to-dos earn gold and experience for a pixel-art character, missed dailies cost health, and you can add custom rewards and buy them with gold, just as in Do It Now, next to the game’s own gear. You can also join a party with friends and take on quests together. It’s free on iPhone, Android and the web, with an optional subscription, and rated 4.3 from about 3,500 US ratings.
Good for: people who liked levelling a character and want friends in the game too.
Less good if: you didn’t want to lose anything: in Habitica, skipped dailies hurt.
2. Habit Rewards: gold for rewards, without the game
This one’s ours. It keeps Do It Now’s best idea, earn currency and spend it on a reward you chose, and drops the character, skills and levels. Every habit and one-off task pays the coins you give it (1, 4, 8 or 16, or your own number). You write your own list of rewards, like a movie night, a coffee out or a new game, each with a coin price, and claim one when your balance covers it. Tasks can have a due date and a reminder, and an overdue task stays on today’s list until it’s done. Miss a habit for a good reason and you can spend 10 coins on a Skip that keeps your streak alive.
It’s on iPhone and Android, so it also works if you keep an Android phone or share a system with someone who does. It’s free for three habits (tasks don’t count toward that), with a Pro subscription for more.
Good for: people who opened Do It Now for the rewards and found the RPG layer was extra work.
Less good if: you want skills, characteristics and a calendar planner: Habit Rewards has none of them.
3. ulives: build your own system
ulives comes from the team behind LifeUp, another Android favourite. You create your own attributes and skills that level up with XP, stock a shop with rewards and prices you choose, and can add loot boxes, crafting and automatic achievements. Focus timers pay XP and coins too. It’s free to start, with a $9.99 Premium in-app purchase, and rated 4.6 from 51 US ratings. (More on it in LifeUp for iPhone.)
Good for: people who used Do It Now’s skills and characteristics and want more control.
Less good if: you want to be set up in a few minutes.
Which one?
If you want the RPG back, Habitica. If you want to design every rule, ulives. And if the reason you kept opening Do It Now was the reward at the end, Habit Rewards gives you that loop with less to set up.
One habit worth keeping from Do It Now: put a price on the reward before you start, and make it something you’d actually do. “Watch a movie” works because it’s real. Need ideas? Here are 70 ways to reward yourself, and more apps where points buy something in gamified to-do list apps. Coming from another Android app? Habit Rewards is free on iPhone and Android. Do It Now: RPG To Do List is a product of its own developer; we’re not affiliated with it or with the other apps mentioned.
